So I got my EVO from Radio Shack on launch date and have recently suffered from the common lifting of the screen on the bottom left of the phone. Called them up, and they said they needed to add me to a wait list (which I would be 30th in line) when they're getting only 2-3 a week. Whatever, I did it just in case. Not only with the store I got it from, but another 4 stores around me. So today, one of them calls me saying they have one in stock for me. Cool right?! Nope, because this is a replacement, I have to go through the store that I originally purchased from where they put me on a different wait list for the replacement. Now call me crazy, but this wait list is most likely going to be secondary in their minds (they're not making any money on me) and will most likely lead me to get someone else's return. No thanks! I'm returning my phone with them today and getting it with Sprint as soon as I can. What kind of bull**** is that. Shouldn't all stores offer me a replacement if they have it in stock?

I should have learned my lesson from Best Buy with my Palm Pre.

return it to the stoer u got it from and go to another store with one in stock and reactivate

I was having the same problem with my phone, but I was lucky enough and the BB store took care of me. When i was having problems I did find out that if you return the phone to BB or RS you can't come back to BB/RS let say weeks later to buy the same and get the same discount as a new costumer even though you returned the phone, according to sprint the system wont let them do it. The only way you get your discount after returning your phone is by sprint reversing your eligibility status and only buying the phone through Sprint again. And you know if you get it with sprint you have to worry about the rebate, just keep that in mind

Sprint system wont let you do it unless you buy the phone to sprint costumer care so I was told by Sprint. I wanted to do the same thing just return the phone and get it from another BB store or RS

i have never tried to do that. i have a friend who works for sprint and that is what i have been told to do if i want to get a phone and not wait. they always want to add more lines u just cant do it in the same visit u gotta do this over a week or two

A lot of people go to BB or the Shack because you don't have to wait for the rebate.

That's good, but I prefer to buy mine from Sprint because they let me charge phones to my account. I don't have to pay for it until after my 30 days are up, so if I don't like a phone, I'm never out a dime. I also don't have to worry about restocking charges if I decide to return it.

Since I don't have to pay for the phone for nearly two months, the wait for the rebate is a lot shorter.

If you do not have a spending limit on your Sprint account, you can do this as well.

If I return my phone within the 30 days at RS. Do I have to pay for the restocking fee? That's not really fair if the phone came defective.

I've always gone through BB with good results even when I've has to exchange a defective phone. The only reason the OP is having problems is because stock is low.

RS doesn't have a restocking fee. I returned mine within the 30 days and got a full refund. Also, it wasn't necessary to return to the same store. I don't know if RS has franchised stores but if you purchased from a corporate owned RS, you can return/exchange it at another corporate owned RS. They don't like to do it but it's really not up to the store employee or manager.

If you're exchanging a handset for manufacturer defect- this is not a warranty issue- thus you don't have to prove where or when you bought it- if it's a known issue. I bought my Palm Pre at Best buy- but I returned 2 Pres to different sprint stores to get my replacements mailed in 2 days time. I had sprints warranty plan- but did not have to pay a deductible due to this being manufacturer issues - not accidental damage.

If you have screen lift and no visible user damage- take it to sprint.

Restocking fee is $35 at Sprint stores, or am I mistaken?

Sprint says I have to go through RS since I bought it there before my 30 days. I don't mind waiting until after, but I don't want to risk getting a refurb from Sprint after the 30 days.

I would take it back to RS. Call sprint, let them know the device has been returned and see what your options are from there. If it goes over the 30dy return time it could make issues when they actually do get a device to exchange yours with.

But, like someone else said pay the $200 to sprint and charge the $100 to your acct.

There have been posts by RS managers, and a local RS manager confirmed this to me, they can order replacements directly. You don't have to go on some BS waiting list again.

I don't work for RS so I don't know how to do it, but maybe you can call my local RS and speak to the manager. He can inform you how your RS needs to do it. His name is Hank, 904-272-9743.

BTW I have no affiliation with RS or Hank, just bought my wife's Evo from his store. That is all. :)

I just got back from rs doing the same thing. different store than purchase, buthe saidhejust ordered me a replacement and itll behere next week. id go to a manaver. sprint said they have to replace the pbone if its defective andwithin the 30 days.

Now will this replacement be a refurbished? I won't settle for anything less than no leakage, version 003, and Epson screen.
