I have Advance task killer as a widget on my phone. Well when I hit the icon to stop running apps, I've noticed that my memory keeps going down and down. If I start out with the phone off and turn it on, I will have about 250 meg of memory, as the day goes on, it just goes down and down, and right now at 9pm I have 71 meg of memory. Why am I leaking memory, do I have something set wrong, is there anyway I can free it up. It also seems my phone is restarting when the memory gets too low. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Get rid of ATK, you dont need it. Android handles memory much better than a BB and there are things that need to stay running. If you must have a task manager I would recommend System Panel.

I had friendstream running and have since stopped it and that seems to be having a positive effect on the RAM. Do you think that ATK is causing my RAM bleed, or at least a big cause of it? Good guess on the BB though as why would I be worried about memory unless I came from that platform. lol

ATK is unnecessary. So is friend stream lol. Both in my experience do bad things to the phone.

Thanks for the help. I've had my phone go to black screen with the HTC logo and then come back up one the home screen. I was assuming that the phone was restarting, but I guess it was clearing out memory. I thought it was odd that the phone would use this much memory and need to do a warm boot per say. I have since done away with the friend streem which seemed to be one of the major contributors as well as ATK. Is it possible that the phone will do as I described while an application is running or I'm in a phone call and go to black screen and warm boot? (lack of a better way of describing it)

Atk also can cause sense to crash, aka that black screen you mentioned. You might wanna uninstall Atk and if it doesn't get better hard reset will fix it.

Whats up patches? Im not gonna lie its weird to no see "BANNED" next to your name! LOL!!!! How have you been?

(btw its jgutie6634 from CB)

I removed friendstream after I rooted my Inc but had to put it back on because it is tied into FB for HTC Sense. I havent noticed any problems with friendstream, though I rarely use it.

I too had "File Free" OCD while on BB and thought i had to kill everything to keep my Inc running smoothly, but thats just not needed with Android. I love it!

OK, I'm going to take the leap of faith with the memory and just let it go, but one thing I do have to ask though, is with all the applications and widgets running in the background, does it adversely affect battery life? The app killer isn't needed for memory but how will it affect battery life?

No problem, I'll just let the memory thing go and trust the phone. Just one more quesiton though, without an app killer, how will all the programs running affect battery life?

I did the same thing, just let it go.....it was a hard ass habit to break coming from a Storm that's for sure. Took me a few weeks to not check on it throughout the day. Android does a good job at it just let it go.

The battery life is no affected with dormant apps. Only things actively running that sync or use GPS will affect it at all.

Thanks, the Android thing is all new to me but I'm loving it so far, way better than my BB.

Where do you even see the memory?

The only place I see it listed is under SD Card & Phone Storage....but I've been told that isn't the right place to look.

Right now, it says I have 646 MB available out of 748 MB total.

I was using ATK and it would tell me how much ram i had left when I would kill apps with the widget.

+1000000000000 ;)

So true! I was a huge BB fan and really do hope that they get their $hit together, but even with OS 6.0 (more like 5.5) there is really nothing earth shattering.

ANDROID FTW!!!!!!!!!!

I could let it go except when I get to around 40mb free memory showing, my device starts to lag like crazy. If it was rooted i could change the lower limit on ram i am guessing.

If you notice the 40mb reading is the average. Whenever Android gets to 24MB of ram give or take it will start killing dormant apps to free up memory. If you are rooted you can install MinFreeManager and adjust it to aggressive which starts trying to free up resources at 96MB. It also depends on how many active sync apps etc you run with how it runs when memory gets low. Each to his own, personally if it got low on my and started running weird I would just reboot the phone.
