I think on Android it pre-caches most of apps/system. Later when some application needs ram it will allocate automatically.

If you didn't comfortable with it try download greenify to auto hibernate apps.

Ps. I think if you free the ram using apps like ram booster it will only temporary and the ram will full again.

Yeah, I was a bit concerned at first because I'm consistently running about about 1.4GB as well; but it seems to be running fine. Annoys me that I can't seem to get rid of these pre-installed Amazon apps that seem to keep running in the background. I keep stopping them, but when I check again they've restarted themselves. I'm sure they're not much of a drain, but it ticks me off on principle.

Just disable the pre-installed apps you don't use or don't want. I did that with all but a couple of the AT&T apps on mine. They will disappear from you app drawer but they won't uninstall completely. They will however, stop running and using resources on the phone. On the AT&T version you can do it right in the app drawer, other versions don't have that option I don't think. But you can go into general settings > applications > swipe over to all > select the offending app and then select disable. Be careful though, don't disable anything that may affect your system, stick with the simple carrier added bloat ware. If you ever want them back they will be in the same list of all applications, you just select the app and then select enable.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. There are some apps I installed that I'm not so worried about, but the Amazon and VZW bloatware in particular are annoying me.
