Droid Razr M - 2+plus years old.

Last night (midnight to 2:00am - Oct 16) the battery went from about 70% to zero. Phone was not in use at least by me. I was asleep. Normal over night would be 15-20% drop (since KK arrived). Rapid drain happened once before about six weeks ago.

GPS, WiFi on, phone stayed awake during that time span (setting is to turn off when not in use), Facebook and Google Service were the big app users 15% and 10%. Facebook was probably from before this time span, I was using it earlier in the evening. However 15% seems really out of line with normal battery use for the app.

Did something get pushed out to my phone last night? I thought I had Google Play Services yesterday instead of Google Services which appears to include Google Play Services? If so, I doubt that would use 70%. Or is it just old age on the battery? I had hoped this phone would last until after the first of the year.

Thanks for any thoughts, from looking for information I know there are hundreds if not thousands of posts about battery issues.

Have a good day thinking about all yesterday's and today's tech announcements. Now I have more products competing for my dollars.

It can be tough to pinpoint what's keeping the phone awake. Sometimes it's something that has glitched, which then gets cleared up if you reboot. I've also suspected one or two live wallpapers of doing this, usually if they have network access (which is usually used to check license or retrieve banner ads if it's the free version).

Does your problem go away if you reboot?

On 2 of my previous phones I had a battery drain that was of a launcher so If you are using a launcher like kk launcher this will happen a lot I prefer using other launchers like apus launcher., miui launcher or cm launcher all have low power consumption this

It seems to significantly reduce the problem. I am not sure if the rest of the problem is because of the reduction do to KK install or battery seeming to get older and weaker - like the rest of us senior citizens. I will try rebooting it on a regular basis as suggested in several other posts. I have been putting off doing a factory reset. They are really not as hard as a recovery on the PC but I just hate doing them. Part of that is I don't really have a good backup plan. Not that I have that much to back up.

vannylugo - Thanks for the suggestion about launchers, etc. I have keep it better vanilla except for all the apps VZW decided I had to have. Couple simple games, book app, BBC News, weather, - being retired a good deal of the time I am around the PC or tablet.

Thanks for the assistance, guys. It seems to be working better for the last couple days. But like all of us, the M has good days and bad days as it gets older. Probably will help it limp along for some time yet to see what is coming down the road. Seems like there is always a new improved model just over the horizon. But I think the days of flagship phones is over for me. Needs have changed in retirement and size is getting beyond what my old hands want to deal with. Plus or minus some from a 5" size seems to be good for me.
