Sounds like the RAZR might have the NFC hardware, but it's just not enabled somehow? This should be "correctable" by updated firmware and/or a custom ROM, right?

According to this: Behind the glass: a detailed tour inside the Motorola Droid RAZR -- Engadget they found a "NXP PN544" inside?

The "findings" are unclear. Did they actually open the device up, or just dump the ROM? Their comment about "hardware is missing or unconfigured" leaves a lot of further questions...

The more I read, the more I think this is a Red Herring, and the report is really poorly worded.

Sorry if I got anyone's hopes up.

I was just going to post this!! However I was going to say they state it has a barometric sensor!!

Hey Galaxy Nexus, I'm better than you, na-na na-na boo boo, stick your head in doo doo.. :-P. It's now two to tango in that department... apparently.

I also found it weird when I read the NFC thing.. but I'm not to sure.. though I tend to trust engadget.. Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC, that's pretty sweet IMO. (here's hoping for it to be true!)

I'd guess since they say the Linux drivers are there but the hardware is missing or misconfigured it would mean the software is future proofed for further Motorola phone releases.

However maybe they are waiting for ICS to use android beam and such.

I can see two points, why wouldn't they mention this its a pretty big deal. And why would they mention it if its not functional at this time. I'd like to see a picture of the chip in the razr before getting too excited about it...

I think too much is being made about NFC, anyway. What the RAZR does have is an microSD slot, and companies are already working on microSD cards with NFC built in.
