Razr Maxx charging on computer

I have been having a problem with this phone since I got it 2days ago. I have been charging my phone up on my computer but it never really charges. It has me dumbfounded due to a couple of things. First off when I have it plugged in I make sure it is on charge only. My CPU recognizes it by making the little noise and it shows charging on phone.

Now whether I am using the phone or not it never increases battery. I have tried the stock USB and my USB from my BB Storm 2 and nothing happens. If I use the wall charger it charges with no problem. So my CPU works with other devices, Razr shows its charging, and USB cord obviously works because of wall charger.

Hope someone can help on this issue. Oh yea by the way I had the phone charging on my computer overnight starting at about 30% by the time I get up it was dead. And the computer was not sleep.

Try a different USB port, or even a different computer, and a different cable? Try some other troubleshooting.

You must turn the phone off to charge. Many USB ports simply don't supply enough power. It will charge fine turned off.

I've never had a problem charging from a computer's USB port with any of my devices.

Not every device is the same, the MAXX may just be using more power than his port can supply. I've seen it before.

And now you are going to tell me that my Maxx is different than their Maxx??? My Maxx charges just fine on either my Laptop or my work PC.

Most laptops have a USB port that provides more juice. Try to see if your laptop has that. My USB port has a little lightning bolt next to it.

Well, that's why I said it may be drawing more power than HIS usb port. Unless, of course, you use his computer to charge your phone.

I have used a different cable as stated I used my bb storm 2 usb cord and it does the same thing. I have used different usb ports and still the same. As far as turning off the device I actually had the phone turned off while it was charging overnight on my laptop just because Im so use to my bb with its auto off/on feature. Like I said I am not sure why its happening but as I type I have it on my laptop and will keep it on here for about an hour and come back to it to see if it has charged at all. at 60% now

USB ports are supposed to supply 500mA, but not all computers do. That's why you have USB hubs that have a switch to power the ports from the computer or from the hub itself and sometimes you will have problems from that.

My current laptop doesn't charge phones very well, but I've had some that did. I change laptops about every 6 months so I've seen the differences over the years.

No I haven't used another CPU only other thing I have would be my ps3 but I have yet to try that

What does the battery graph on the phone show? Does it flatline, go up, or continue going down at the same or a reduced rate?

Not sure if you have resolved this issue yet but I just joined this forum and saw your post. I had the same issue for the first few days and finally figured out my problem. You may want to plug in the phone using the USB cord, login to the phone, and check the notifications. There will be a listing at the top for 'USB connection'. Select that option and make sure the 'Charge Only' option is selected and hit OK.

This worked for me and hopefully your issue is this simple to resolve. Good luck.

Anyone care to look at their stock wall charger to get an amperage rating?

USB ports just don't provide the same kind of current a wall charger does. Charging by USB is slow and tedious because of that.

Some people have the luck where their USB port supplies a decent current for charging, others not so much. I'd suggest just switching to your wall charger.

i have an aftermarket usb cable that worked with my blackberry bold. however when i tried to use this with my computer, it wouldn't even register my razr maxx. would not charge, or show up on the usb bar.
