razr xt910 on rogers upgrade

I'd like to upgrade to ics right away but not sure when I can get it. I'd even consider rooting my phone. So what's the best way for me to upgrade to ics? I'd even root my phone. I'm from Canada if this makes a difference. So any help would be appreciated. I just moved from a bb and a windows phone but keep coming back to android devices. What's the best way for me to permanently root for free as I don't have alot of money day to day. I'm also on a limited income. I also don't have a credit card whatsoever. So I rely on free apps. Any help will be appreciated.

My suggestion is leave the phone as is and wait for the official release of ICS. If you are on a limited income why risk turning an expensive and great phone into an expensive paperweight?
