Good mornin,
I have been lurking for a while, and decided to finally post. I have been searching the forums for a while, but can quite find the exact same situation as I am in.
Got the fascinate last week, and so far loving it. Rooted it, and thats about it, save for some of the bloatware....yeah, i made the newbs mistake, and deleted a few(didnt rename, didnt back up) and now i am having a problem with updating.
The apps that I removed:
3g Mobile Hotspot
-Memo
-Blockbuster(downloaded and re-installed)
-One more i cant remember, i am searching my wife's fasinate to see if i can locate it.
{If anyone has a definitive list of bloatware installed} that could help me a million times over.

Here's the info that i am looking for. I have downloaded the system dump that was linked here; i have extracted the files and have found the apps that i am looking for. My question is, how to i push these apps to my phone, and have my phone recognize them, so that i can update. Is this even possible?
Or do I need to just restore the whole thing? What would be the easiest way for that.
I am thinking that i am going to end up removing the root, as its far too easy to get over my head; i know just enough to make me dangerous, and to be honest with you, i havent used the root like i thought i would for tethering, etc.
I know this has probably been answered already, so if it has, please point me in the right direction. I have found a couple of close threads, but not quite what i am looking for. I am hoping that i can get the few apps back on there, update and go about my day without having to go back to stock, but if thats the only way then so be it.
Thanks a million to all out there that have helped me so far
Dave

You use adb to push the files back to the /system/app directory.

If you've rooted your device, adb should be installed and functional on your computer.

Just do a search (here, google, wherever) on how to use adb to push files from your local PC, to the device.

or just get the system dump files(just do a search) that contains all the original files that came on the phone and get buy root explorer for $5. Then you can literally just drag and drop the missing .apk files back to your system app folder on your phone.
I did this this and it worked easy. I was able to update without problem.
I did have to re root again afterwards but it all worked fine.

If adb scares you, you can put the apps on your SD card then use something like root manager and move them back to the system/app folder. It worked for me except it may take a bit longer than adb push

Edit: dwc5000 beat me to it: P

Great point, root explorer can definitely be used here if you're not familiar / comfortable with adb. It's a great app, definitely worth the ?2.99 or whatever it is now.

I just noticed something. Some of the bloatware is available on the market so would the updates be able to tell where they came from or as long as its on the phone it doesnt matter?

The update process checks for specific sections of the files, not just the file itself. In order for the update to succeed, the files need to match what was on your device originally. If you can ensure that's what you're getting from the market, you should be fine. More than likely, however, that won't be the case.

I figured as much, as i downloaded the blockbuster app, and still having the same issue. Did the factory reset, same issue, however it didnt remove root. I still have superuser, and after re-installing Titanium, it was working just like it had. But still no update. I am out of town right now, and i brought my "work" hard-drive with me, and all my android files are on my "media" hard drive. Talk about biting hard. OH well, i am not messing with it too much until i get home, in the rare instance that i brick it, i want to be near all the stuff i need to work it back to life.

Hey I was in the same situation just a few days ago, all you need to do is leave your device rooted, use back up pro, titanium etc. to back up all your information and apps. Once that is done go to the post called "how to go back to stock" follow the instructions, and once again make sure that you are rooted, and that should bring you back to the original system set up. Proceed to download the update and than root again and remove the bloatware by renaming apps.
This process is a little bit tedious but it will work. I hope this helps!

I just wanted to take a few minutes to say thanks to all that have helped me out.
I finally got everything workin good again.
Heres what i did
-Came off some money and bought root explorer
-Compared system dump app folder to my folder
-Copy/pasted missing apps to sd card
-Open root explorer
-Copy from sd card to system/apps
-verified all bloat/crapware i deleted was back
-Checked for update
BOOM! It worked. Then i ran into a snafu that took me forever to figure out. Maybe the great minds in here can break this down, because how i got this to work, i have no idea.
When i attempted to re-root, i didnt notice that a V2 of the 1-Click had been uploaded, so i tried to use the first one, and got a device not found error.
Then i re-installed the 32bit drivers on my computer, just in case, and still nothing. Here's the weird part, when i took the phone out of debugging, it would show up, but as soon as i turned debugging on, it would dissapear. The USB hub was still getting power, and stil made the disconnect/connect sounds, so something was happenening.
Then i grabbed my wifes 64bit system, and downloaded those drivers, installed, 5 min later i was re-rooted (using part 1 of Diirk's version 1)
Just weird, not really a question, just wanted to put that out there, see if that problem has come up anywhere else.
Oh yeah, Diirk, looks like we are neighbors, I work at Little Creek base, saw that you are in VA beach. I live down in NC, but make that long commute everyday. Thanks for that 1 click, it was awesome, although, i am starting to learn the adb commands too, a little.
AGAIN, thanks to all that helped shed some light on there. I was planning to unroot, but after 4 hours without root, i dont think i like that idea. At least i know that i can now
