Read Receipts on Unlocked Note 10 Plus

[Android Central Question]

I recently purchased an Unlocked Galaxy Note 10 Plus. Prior to that I had a Note 8 that was purchased through T-Mobile.

I noticed that when I send a message I have no more read receipts. The friends I message who also have Samsung devices do have theirs turned on still. I also do not have the "Chat Settings" option in my message settings to turn it on.

I read that the feature is called RCS Messaging. Not sure if that is the correct name.

My question is: Do I not have this feature because this phone is Unlocked? Is this feature only on the phone when it is purchased from a carrier?

Yes the unlocked version doesn't have rcs chat, if you download Google android messages it has rcs chat.
