I'm looking for a tablet to use mainly for reading textbooks and sheet music. Something with a good size, decent screen, and since I'm in college price is a huge factor. I'll almost definitely end up getting it used from Swappa. Any suggestions?

Me personally I am a Samsung fan so I would recommend any of those. Do you need it to have cellular data if so it seems like T Mobile is the best option for cellular data plans. They have plans starting at $5 for 500 megabytes. Also they have 200 megabytes free for life. I'm not sure how long this is going to go on however but then they have it for really cheap for a long time. Even $5 a month for mobile internet is not bad at all. Do you care about the screen size. They have 7 inch tablets and 10 inch tablets. I would check Amazon as well they have great stuff for great prices. I picked up my phone a samsung galaxy s3 for a little over a hundred dollars on there. Also I got a Samsung tablet for about the same price. If mobile data is not important to you go with a WiFi only model as it will save some money. Best of luck to you

for pdf rendering, imo you need a 10" tablet. i presume textbooks are mostly pdf?

i know on my 7" tablets, i don't even bother trying a pdf. i'm sure an 8" would render a smidge better. screen size should be your defining spec.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 is actually looking quite decent to me. $260-300 used, large screen (9 inches would be minimum for reading textbooks/sheet music), nice resolution. I've never used a Samsung device before though so I'm not sure how I feel about their UX/UI. I've always been moderately turned off by what I've seen of others' Samsung phone.
