Real HDMI app now in the market!

Some things to consider.

...from you-tube or other sources as well over the internet - sure, I could also have them watch it on a laptop, but a TV is better.

True, but a laptop or netbook connected to a TV is even better still if it's available. The HDMI out using this app is apparently a weird 480p equal to the screen resolution.

Or later one of the kids wants to watch a movie while the adults are doing boring adult stuff; if there aren't any good movies in house or on TV (or heck, if the DVD/VCR/Blu-ray player isn't hooked up) I can play one of the standbyes from my phone on their tv; sure, it's not as good as the big-screen Blu-ray driven home theater at my house, but it gets the job done.

Depending on what you mean by this you may be able to do it today better. Any non-DRM protected media can be played through the HDMI port at 720p today. Of course if you're talking about the Blockbuster app or another streaming source that's another story (but see note above regarding the laptop).

Not to take anything away from this app, it seems like a great start and when I've got the time I'll play with it, but I'm hoping for better API support from Motorola and/or Android (for example, better multiple-monitor support) to give it some real teeth.

That's all great but if I'm in front of a 60" tv I'm probably at home, where my PC is.

Its not about being home. Its about portability. If the only place you have access to hdmi is home then why buy an hdmi cable in the first place? You likely wouldn't, so clearly you have no use for this amazing app. Also if I have to explain the benefits of this then you probably don't even know enough about the device to care about it either.

True but if the NFL app will stream live games you could watch them on your 60 inch tv instead of watching the play by play on a computer. This would be great for games that are not on TV and a lot cheaper then the direct tv football package.

Now if you do not watch football then this would not apply to you but maybe something in the future that you do like would be available.

that is exactly why I want to use it. It will save me $10 a month so I don't have to upgrade my cable package to get the actual NFL RedZone Channel

cant use HDMI video without a paid app?

so i cannot plug in my stock phone to hdmi into tv unless i download an app for it?

sure you can...but it will only play content viewable from the 'gallery' app. no nfl, no youtube, no blockbuster...etc.
