"Real World" Reasons Why I might get Droid over Incredible

Hi..ready all the reviews, it really does sound like the Incredible is..well..Incredible...BUT..I have some things that I think might sway me to get moto droid instead..would love users thoughts..

1. Better RF - My home is in a very poor Verizon signal area..I use a Network extender in the house for good coverage...certain areas still barely get one bar on my current phone...an LG with great reception.

2. Really Really want Noise Canceling...One thing that I cant stand is when other call me and their cell phone pushes through so much back ground noise that it hurts my ears...Moto has it...incredible does not..even though Incredible reviews say sound is top notch...moto may be better for the other party in a noisy setting.

3. Gorilla Glass - seems like I can worry less with the moto..if I put phone in pocket with keys, etc...

4. Battery Life - reviews suggest moto has much better life..very key in real world use I think

Would love to hear opinions on this...overall speed of phone is not to critical for me...moto is fast enough..thanks

the one that sticks out the most to me is battery life.

if i am not satisfied with the incredible's battery, it may be the first time ever that i buy an extended battery for a device. but i'll just have to see first.

jiholl - I think all of those things, especially the first on your list, are valid concerns. I have owned many HTC devices over the years, and hands down the Motorola Droid has done a better job of pulling in a signal than any HTC phone I've had. On days when I have to go to our corporate office, my Droid works in spots my HTC phones never did. Having said that, the Incredible is amazing, and I would at least give it a chance and see if any of those concerns end up being real or not.

Since when has the Droid had noise cancelling?

Last I checked that was a N1 feature.

But I do have to say the Droid has the clearest best sound/voice experience I've ever had on a phone ever

NOISE REDUCTION
Dual microphone noise reduction

From the motorola website.

Seems that the only complaints on the Incredible are the signal strength meter which no one knows if that's just a software display issue or something else and possible durability concerns.

OH! Fantastic! I just read that myself!

Another reason to hug my Droid!

It is also on the Droid, but it was not advertised like it was with the nexus one.

dont know for me since the baseband update my rf has been poor spend to much time on 1x oh well

You might want to try it again. My signal has actually improved - I drop to 1x much less.

On the Droid/Incredible - both are good phones, and you should definitely go and look at both. Some things to remember, though, are:

1) The "Great" keyboard found on the Incredible can be installed on the Droid - some dude over at XDA keeps updating the HTC_IME keyboard
2) The hardware keyboard on the droid improves over use - after awhile, the keys get rounded, making it easier to click.
3) The incredible is newer, and less likely to be outdated by the next big thing.
4) The droid, hardware-wise, is a beast. I have done things to this that my blackberry couldn't even stand.

I'm a little confused by the "drop to 1x" thing...I could be wrong, but I thought that on a verizon phone you have BOTH 3g (evdo) and 1x...As far a I know, VOICE is only carried on 1x ... NOT 3g...3g on verizon is for data ONLY....GSM phones do carry voice on 3g with higher quality..

also...I think that most smartphones on Verizon have only ONE signal indicator..if you have even 1 bar of 3g for data than that is what is shows on the screen...you can't then tell how many bars of 1x you have.....so you may show 1 bar of 3g but still have say 4 bars of 1x and vice versa....I know that in my home I have better 3g than 1x reception on verizon...I can easily tell this now since I have a dumbphone and they have indicators for BOTH 3g and 1x..

I too was looking at the Incredible but might keep my Droid now and wait. Especially since I finally overclocked (I know, late) and 1 ghz isn't that far away.

when i say drop to 1x means my phone indicates im using 1x and the data speeds prove it. the issue has gotten worse after the baseband update. but thats me. and every bad battery report. i don't hold any weight in that you have to think how long have most of these testers had these phones, and it usually takes it about a week for the battery to stabilize, so ill give it a little time to see what the battery is really like.

Poor signal is a quick way to kill a battery. If you think the baseband update is screwed up, try redoing it and see if your signal quality improves. Or return the phone to VZW.

I also live in a poor coverage area, was contemplating getting a network extender, but didn't want to spend $300. My wife's HTC Eris drops calls all the time, my Motorola Droid only rarely drops calls. If the Incredible's radio is comparable to the Eris', you will be better served by the Motorola.

I've noticed this with all my Motorola devices.

They've all had phenomenal signal strength while my small army of Samsung and HUGE army of LG's had terrible strength (ALL in the same place).

If its one thing Moto can do 100% right, its make a darn good radio.

Hate to pick at some old wounds but... if I do make this switch, which I am entertaining over my Droid.....

Did "they" fix the bluetooth headset dialing thing yet or not? (And no, I dont care if it's Motorola, Google, or Bluetooths fault, etc... so let's not re-open that old wound too)

  • Reach for phone
  • Orientate it (cuz I'm drivin).
  • Unlock the phone.
  • Hope I'm at the home screen..
  • Choose VOICE DIAL.
  • Say persons name..
  • Say persons name, again.. :p
  • Probably say it one more time..
  • Then begin my call.... (and soemtimes it never makes the transition to headset anyway.

All, while driving..

You should have your license revoked. If you need to make a call, for everyones sake, please pull over and make it. Even if if you're totally hands free, you're distracted enough that a drunk has a smaller chance of getting in a wreck. Like the signs say "Shut up and drive."

In the last year, my wife's car has been rear-ended twice on the beltline, by people talking on phones.

You need to cool it NOW

And in response to the post; Sadly we do not have bluetooth dialing yet.
