Reboot/Recovery for 4.4.24

Hi everyone

Recently I bought a car stereo that operates with Android KitKat. I went to hook it up to my truck and nothing happened even after waiting a while. So I reset the thing and got to a screen that prompts me to reboot, update system or recover. The place I bought it from claims that they tested it before they shipped and it worked fine. However I am leaning towards there is no user interface installed. This is the screen I get:


When I select reboot system now, the yellow text at the bottom starts to display different lines and after about 10 seconds the screen goes blank and nothing happens.
When I select update system/mcu image from sd card or usb nothing happens as I dont have a usb or sd card with anything installed on it.
When I select recovery system from backup, again the yellow text at the bottom changes and after a few seconds the screen goes blank and nothing happens.

The reason I think there is no UI installed because of the yellow text at the bottom:

E:failed to mount /mnt/external_sd (no such device)

Please help!
