receiving texts in japanese

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows a way for the Evo to receive texts in Japanese? I have a few Japanese friends in the US and while I can send them texts in Japanese, (they're on Verizon and AT&T), when they send me texts all I get is gibberish....

I know nothing on the subject but maybe the Handcent texting app would work with their plugin?

Thanks...after further research it seems that Sprint doesn't support utf-16 character encoding (at least two years ago, it didn't). Not sure if thats changed or not though...

I never had problems sending texts using Japanese characters personally. Could be the other persons end as well.

What about an App like Heywire? "Supports all major languages, including character based ones plus emoticons when messaging other HeyWire users"

Check out kakaotalk app. A lot of Asian with iphone or android use that app.
