Receiving texts

My partner got a S5 but when she get a message and opens by clicking the messaging icon it goes to the last one she had open and not the new one she just got.
Is there a way to change this so it goes to the new one

it maybe that after reading a message she used the home button and not the back button so it's still active when she taps the new received message icon it goes to the still open message
