Every now and then the multitasking feature on the Note 2 stops working.
I would press the home button and nothing happens. If I reboot my device it starts working again.
Does anyone know how to get it working again without having to do a reboot?

Maybe out of memory. Next time it happens hokd the home key and then go to the pie chart menu. Click ram at the top and see how much you are currently using. If most of it is full click clear memory and try multiview again.

It seem like you are running an app that using too much memory in the ram. I suggest you look at the active list in task manager to find out which app is using the most. I rarely go over 1.4 gig of ram

That won't work because when this happens, holding the home key only gives a slight vibration, but nothing else. The Task Manager nor Google Now would appear.

Next time it happens I'll try going to memory management from the device settings menu. Hopefully clearing RAM will fix it the next time it happens again. It has only happened about 4 or 5 times since I've owned the Note 2. I've had it for about 6 weeks.

Had it happen to me again. I went into applications and cleared the memory, as well as end the process of all running apps. Still couldn't get the multitasking feature using the home button to work. After a reboot it begin working again.

Re: Multitask feature requires reboot

My Note II finally received the JB 4.1.2 update (on the Rogers network in Canada) and to enable/disable the multitask feature, it is done by holding the back button and not the home screen button.
Can't see why it would be the home button on your device and back button on mine...have you tried it by holding the back button?

I'm not sure if I'm referring to the correct feature, but I'm referring to the one that allows you to view running apps and switch back and forth between them.
Not the split screen feature that allows you to have two apps running on the screen at the same time.

Oh...I see what you mean now.
I call it the "recent" app list, displaying the last 10 or so opened apps.
Are you running a launcher app that may be causing this conflict?
When you press the home button twice consecutively, does it at least open up google voice search or S-voice?

OK. Thanks for the correct name. I went ahead and changed the name of the thread.
I'm running Nova Launcher.
Double tapping the home button does nothing. I can set it to do an action if I enable it.
I contacted the developer of Nova Launcher and he informed me that Nova Launcher has no effect on the recent app list feature.

Was happening to me on a ljc stock rom... anything I did didn't help it... (except reset)

Moved on to ma5 and haven't had the issue since

It is well known with android you should restart the phone once a day... at least it used to be well known.
