Only having this phone for less than a month and immediately updating to Android 10 I don't know if this is a recent issue or if it goes back several updates.

When I have 1 or 2 apps showing in the recent apps screen and swipe left and press clear all, they clear. But when I go back from my home screen they are still there. I have more success clearing if there are 3 or more showing.

Anyone else?

Note, same on both my Pixel 3 and my wife's Pixel 3 XL.

I just gave my Pixel 3 running Android 10 a try. With a bunch of apps they all cleared and stayed cleared. With 3, 2, and 1 they cleared and stayed clear. So, I'm not having that problem...assuming I understood the problem correctly.

This issue could be associated with a bug in Android 10, but depends on how you exit the app.
If you are in an app, and you use the swipe left gesture (prior back button), it will exit the app.
If you then go the recent apps screen and swipe up to clear, when you go back to the task screen you will see the app still present and was not cleared.
But if you are in an app and swipe up from bottom of screen (to go to home page), then when you go to recent apps and swipe up to clear them, they will be removed from the task page once you go back.

Hopefully fix coming in next release.

Yep my pixel 1 just started doing this right after I updated to 10. I can't complain much though I suppose, because besides that my phones working the best it ever has. Sometimes my recents clear sometimes they don't..... but I never have more than 1 or 2 running anyway, and I've found if you clear them then hit the home button twice, then turn the screen off with the power button the next time you open your phone up they're gone. Maybe it's some new feature in 10 we haven't figured out how to properly use yet :-[

Google loves to change things around between os upgrades without letting their customers know how a features been changed, and what the new way of using it is.

It sounds more like the "swipe left to exit the app gesture (which I don't use, I don't use gestures) is actually a "run the launcher" gesture, which, of course, doesn't exit the app at all. (Since so many people think hitting the Home button does exit the app, maybe even a few Google developers, who aren't aware of how the system itself works, also thought Home and "exit" were the same thing. [It's disheartening how many YouTube supposed "experts" seem to think the same thing. Just keep hitting the Home button to "get back to the launcher" to run the next app - and leave a dozen apps still running in RAM - then wonder why the battery isn't lasting longer.])

You might be on to something there, that does feel like how it's set up now. It doesn't feel like as much of a bug as a purposeful change ;-)

And I'm using the two-button navigation so if "swipe left" is the problem I wouldn't experience it.
