How is everybody's reception? I have had mine since last Thurs. and the reception has been a bit spotty. I live in a cell tower dead zone. Nothing works out here and I have tried all the companies. I can drive a few hundred yards in any direction and get great coverage but not here! I have Verizon now. According to the dB meter I am around -111 to -113 a lot of the time along with zero signal. I am actually impressed with the battery life since Cell Standby used to be the majority of my battery usage.

I've used Samsungs, LGs and Motos here also on Verizon and most of them seemed to do a bit better at signal than this LG 5X. My Nexus 6 was worse than my Moto Pure though for some reason. Is it a Nexus thing?

I can say as long as I have some sort of signal that calls can get through and sound OK but not great. I do miss quite a few calls and texts though.

I have Tmo in a community where coverage is generally pretty decent for all carriers. I have not noticed a difference between what my 5X can do and what the Pure used to do.

Don't know what kind of data plan you have with VZN, but perhaps consider using Google Voice/Hangouts for phone calls. Whenever anyone calls my GV number, my phone will ring AND my computer will also ring. You can have Hangouts ring on your handset as well. This way you won't miss any calls....

My carrier is Verizon and I work in two different offices.

Historically, one has great cell coverage, and the other is almost a complete dead zone for most of my past phones.

Today is the first day in the "dead zone" office and to my surprise I'm getting an okay 3G signal which is way better than my other phones in the past. At least for the past 3.5 hours my reception has been much better on the Nexux 5x.

My most resent previous phones were all by Moto: (OG MotoX, Droid Max, Droid Turbo)

Well -- I'm back to normal in my "dead zone" office. I keep having my cell service drop and come back. It does not appear to be better than my other phones.

According to Cell Standby my phone has been without service for 35% of the time it's been on since last charge. That was 10 hours ago and I have been home about half that time (I telecommute). If I just have a hint of signal I can make calls but I am obviously without signal a lot! 3 and a half hours with no signal at all is pretty bad. My Nexus 6 is similar.
