Trying to figure which tablet provides the best bang for the buck.
I have a nook which is getting a little long in the tooth. Don't know that it will be able to do ICS ect...

I also miss the dedicated tablet buttons and the speaker/durability of the case leaves a lot to be desired.

Are there any other good tablet options out there in a lower price range? Or will I have to shell out good money for a nicer solutions.

Things i like. IPS screen, expandable storage via SD card, 7 inch form factor.
Good CPU/GPU and root capability is also nice :)

I'm currently thinking transformer on sale when prime comes out.

My transformer is 10", not inexpensive, but excellent. My Zoom WiFi is 10', inexpensive and excellent. The Nook color is 7 1/2" inexpensive and (according to reviews) excellent. Very easily rooted and/or modified to full android.

Your post is confusing! I think you otta think it though again!!

Not sure what you find confusing about my post. I'm looking for a the favored best bang for the buck android tablet. Even though the transformer is on the more expensive end of price, it may still represent the best value.

When you say Zoom to you mean XOOM? From what I've seen, the XOOM tablets aren't cheap, similar capabilities to the transformer. The Nook Tablet is looking pretty good, but shares the same issues the original Nook suffers.

Mike: Thanks for the spelling correction. I can see how it is important to the discussion. I promise I will never call my Xoom a Zoom again.

To quote you: " Are there any other good tablet options out there in a lower price range? Or will I have to shell out good money for a nicer solutions.

Either you are looking for an inexpensive tablet or not; either you want a 7" screen or not: either you want easy root capability or not. The features you described are exactly the features that caused me to have just ordered (of all things) a Nook Color.

Xoom WiFi 32 gigs are available in the market today at less than $250, Transformer 16s at the same price. If you are a gamer, then you might need more power; and these will do the job if you do not mind a 10" screen. But if you want a 7" and are not a heavy gamer, then the Nook Color is one of the best deals around, and appears to meet most, if not all of the criteria you stated.

Sorry if I offended you, but it does not sound to me like you are really concerned about cost or size. Perhaps once you decide on whether size, cost and rootability are impotant your choice will be much easier.

Good Luck with your decision.

I'd like to know what kind of Meth you've been smoking. Or please do tell us where we can find such a steal...

Fantphace:

About 6 weeks ago recerified xooms were selling for $279.00 plus tax and shipping at NewEgg. During that period they occasionally had "open box" units for, as I recall, about $20.00 less. At the same time Amazon had recertifieds' for a little bit more, and I purchased mine from them (no tax, no shipping). During the past week I believe I saw some carrier specials advertising the 3g for about $250 with contract. I have ran a new price check, and apparently the price of the Xoom (WiFi) has increased, including the recertifieds. I might feel bad about understating the current cost of of the Xoom, but hey; the price increase just means I got a lot better deal than I thought; and really does not affect the message I was trying to convey.

The prices I gave were only to make a point. They were not intended to be a current market survey.

If you choose to quibble over a general price reference rather than comment on the point I was trying to convey, be my guest.

Those that read the thread can judge.
