Recommend a case that protects the spine

It does not, unless the springs that hold the hinge protector are damaged and those somehow scratch the phone.

It's all over YouTube, so I would suggest folks check out the case reviews that are posted. I am not reporting this from first hand experience, though. Just passing on what is out there.

I have had the case for a year now and no damage. I've see the reports. It's the spring that is causing it for people - the pointy part that would scratch the phone if it got dislodged. I saw all the videos because this was first reported with the ZF2 and Spigen's case. THe ZF3 version removed the padding in the hinge and it made people think it would now scratch it more but that's not where scratches were coming from. It was the spring in those units that got dislodged or broken. I almost didn't buy the case because of those reviews, but I did and took a chance and see what could cause it - if it mechanism broke. It hasn't happened to me yet. I can see if someone dropped it and maybe it would break it, but it wouldn't scratch under normal use. So, I'm not saying it can't happen - but it won't happen under normal use.

I'm going with this case for now. I want a rugged case with Hinge protection, a kickstand and a slot to hold the Pen and this checks all the boxes but it's pretty expensive.

I actually have this coming in tomorrow. It looks IDENTICAL to the SUPCASE UB Pro, which costs $20 more. I thought I would take a look at these cases with the bulk because I really wanted a practical case that would hold the SPen (I barely used it over the last year because I would never have the pen with my phone) despite the bulk.
I have the SUPCASE that arrived today and want to compare it to the i-Blason and then might keep the i-Blason one if it's really identical to save the money. I thought about getting the Spigen thin armor case again (like I have for the ZF3) but they hiked that price up and I didn't feel like playing that game.
It adds a considerable amount of bulk, but it actually doesn't bother me much. I just need the phone in it to confirm that. lol
I also want to try the Caseborne Armadillotek case that really looks nice too - but that isn't out yet.
The S pen & grip cases are both trash (got them both for free... Ugh)
UAG Civilian has a thin belt-type hinge cover. Mine will be here tonight so I will update on the quality. There's a YouTube video showing it and it looks pretty great.

The UAG civilian case is pretty good. The hinge protection is very thin so it will prevent scratches but probably won't be much protection for a drop.
The one thing I dislike about it is the cover screen is raised so far around the sides that it makes the back swipe gesture nearly impossible on it.

I'll take my chances with a thin case...those hinge protection cases are hideous looking and makes a barely pocketable phone even less pocketable.

Yep its going back to Amazon. Feels like trash, plus you can't swipe gesture... UAG used to make great stuff but this is the flimsiest plastic I've ever seen on a case.

Yeah even the buttons are terrible and completely flush with the case. Their buttons are usually really good. I see dbrand is making a grip case for e fold, so I might pick that one up when it's available with the leather skin

Yup that's why I went with the I-Blason but now I found this one and it's also very similar and under $40 which is a huge price difference, it should be here Monday.
