Recommend me a budget smartphone for my need

We didn't say that we weren't going to get robbed. We simply meant that the probability is much higher in a place like an AT&T store.

Hello.. Sorry I haven't been in a while since I created this thread. I appreciate you guys for the answers but somehow after looking for a while, it seems impossible to find a good sound quality CDMA phone on budget:
1. iPhone 4 and Samsung Galaxy S3 has CDMA version and indeed has a good quality sound, but definitely not cheap.
2. There is also dual-sim version of HTC One, I reckon the dual front speakers and beats audio is the best among phones. But again, not cheap.
3. HTC Desire VC is also dual-sim, affordable, and amped with beats audio. But after trying it myself, I'm not even impressed. (Not to mention how heavy it is)

So finally.. I accept the idea of getting a separate budget phone for CDMA network and an MP3 player that can actually impress. I end up with CDMA version of Samsung Galaxy Y and Sandisk Sansa Clip Zip. Galaxy Y is very small and very easy to be placed with my Nexus 5 in the same pocket, which definitely support the idea of bringing 2 phones at the same time. The problem is, it really is a budget phone lol. Low spec, stuck on gingerbread and all, but I guess it won't matter since I only use CDMA network for phone calls.

Sandisk Sansa Clip Zip is also an outstanding player. When mine came, I thought that tiny player is a joke. But when I explore the power of rockbox, I think this might be the best sounding and feature-rich mp3 player I've ever own. Not to mention it's also thumb-sized.

So thank you guys for stopping by!

You're absolutely right. 20 lashes with a wet noodle for me.

What you should have said is: Buy a second Nexus 5. But since it's not supported by Verizon that won't work, unless he meant Sprint.

I think a used Galaxy S3 Verizon from swappa fits the bill. It's less than $300, it have Wolfson DAC so no doubt great headphone out sound quality, It's only 16gb but you can add a 64gb microSD. It's not exactly small, but just have to deal with it.

What being asked for is common features for high end devices, so there aren't many choices for cheap phone that is small. Add in 64gb or microSD makes it even harder, most manufacturer are doing away with microSD.

2. Good sounding through mainstream earphones and decent sounding through studio headphones.

That's utterly impossible with mp3s.
We should never have traded AIFF for mp3. Sure, the files are 10 times smaller. But so is the sound quality. It's atrocious!

you state you need 32gb, and your phone is 32gb. so i don't get it.

i'd just buy a used phone with a bad esn and use it as your media device. i have an lg optimus g, which is pretty much the same as a nexus 4, with has 16gb internal and sd card support of at least 32gb. never tried 64gb.

Verizon just released the Lucid 3 for $299 off contract. 8 GB plus micro SD up to 64 GB. 4G LTE, 4.7" Qhd screen (960x540), 2440 Batt, Quad Core Snapdragon 400, 1 GB RAM - should be a good peformer with a lower res screen and a pretty good sized battery - the Lucid and Lucid 2 actually had pretty good writeups. Very compact - should be a nice phone.
