Red Hue on top of screen

Is anybody else seeing a red hue/tinge on your 2 XL? I have the 2 XL and I am thinking about returning it for the 2. No burn-in and the blue shift does not bother me, but viewing straight on it has a red tint on the top of the screen that varies with color setting. This can be seen in any app with a light colored screen. I use Waze on my daily commute so I see it daily :( and it does bother me especially in a flagship device.

  • In natural color it is less noticeable, but the red fades to white and then blue tint on the bottom of the screen.
  • In boosted, red tint moves farther down the screen and blue is less noticeable.
  • In saturated mode, red tint is very noticeable a little over half of the screen and fades to white at bottom of the screen.
If I tilt the top away from me between 20 to 30 degrees it will show a relatively uniform white screen with a very slight, not really noticeable red tint.

I would get a replacement but with the varied quality of the 2 XL screens I don't want to get stuck with a replacement that has other screen issues that I can't just send back for a refund. This really is disappointing. So I guess I could return the 2 XL and buy another 2 XL or just get the 2.

This is the next article on AC! But I haven't seen any other mention of your problem. Sounds like a defect unit. Sounds like you could do an exchange for another 2 XL, but if you are as worried as mentioned, that might not be the best option for you. I can tell you, I haven't had issues with mine. You could also returned the 2 XL and order a 2. Though I dunno that the process will be any quicker because of your previous issues with the 2 XL. Good luck OP! Hope you get one of these phones to enjoy.

With so many issues, people should pick up a Note 8. I had one at launch and sold it, but now I'm thinking about going back because LG has some QC issues with the 2XL. I may pass completely on Pixel until next year.

There's no such thing as a phone that fits everyone. If someone is not happy with the 2XL that doesn't mean the Note is the next phone on everyone's list.

Unless the person prefers stock Android. The thing with the Note 8 is you sacrifice absolute speed for the features. This is somewhat mitigated by RAM, but all in all to a user used to a pixel, the note 8 MAY seem a tad slower, especially as the Note 8 is using an underclocked SD835 compared to competitors. I don't mind this as to me features>speed as long as the speed is still reasonably fast, but to others it's a peeve.

But yeah, it's a possible alternative. If the OP didn't mention any second option, which he did (Pixel 2).

I've had heaps of Samsungs with pink and green hue problems which I returned over the years. No adjustments could fix. I'm yet to notice any of the XL2 pixels on display with the problem. I ended up getting a small pixel 2 anyways.Such a pain returning phones or trying to decide what to do.

I had not seen any discussion about a red tint on the 2 XL up to now. I checked the screen out pretty closely when I first got the pone and I did notice a slight red tint when tilting the phone initially. It seems like it grew worse and was really noticeable with the updated saturated mode, then I could not not see it even in boosted mode which is the setting I preferred. It became really annoying.

I ended up ordering the Pixel 2, in part because I found the 2 XL to be a little large to use one handed. I really liked everything else about the 2 XL and didn’t have any other problems with it. If I don’t like the Pixel 2 due to the lower resolution or if it has any other issues :-\ I may try the 2 XL again hoping that I get an acceptable screen .

Nope, don't want a samsung. Wife has an S7, after a few months it's laggy, did a factory reset at six months, and touchwiz drives me nuts.
