Refurb with Crappy Service- OTA or No OTA?

So I never had reboot issues, just plain SHUT DOWN issues. Phone would turn off and wouldn't turn on unless I did a battery-pull. Got progressively worse and verizon suggested a hard-reset. I did so and since I was wiped, went ahead and rooted. Kept happening. Then phone totally crapped out and wouldn't come back on.

Verizon replaced next-day with a refurbished unit. Phone looks perfect and seems to run fine, but service, call quality, and signal seems worse. I'm still losing 3G randomly and getting no bars in my apartment where I used to have 3. I'm not sure if this is a phone hardware issue, software issue, or a network issue. I'm guessing Verizon will tell me to update OTA? Will this help or hurt?

Any suggestions?

I think I recall that VZW is instructing NOT to update with the OTA (in fact, it might not be available anymore, due to the problems). I recommend against it, unless you plan to do another exchange, in which case go for it -- can't break what's already broken. :)

i'd go ahead and do it, i wouldn't want to keep a phone with all those problems anyways
