I thought there were also 2 speculations about this:
that there is 8gb of internal but only 4gb is allocated for OS use by mistake.
that there is 8gb but they set it up as a 4gb mirrored virtual drive.
Although I would imagine the guys that hack these things to get at root access would be able to say without question what the hardware is, at least what the device can recognize, maybe one of them will chime in. Or someone that has torn one down ad can cross-reference a part number for the memory.
This is kind of like putting 4GB of RAM in a Win98 PC. The mobo may accommodate it but the OS simply is not going to address all of it.
Try putting 8GB of RAM in this same theoretical PC and, OS notwithstanding, the chipset on the mobo probably won't be able to see or address all of it.
So that gives us 3 possibilities with the TBolt.
1. It does not have 8GB of physical memory
2. It has 8GB but the rest of the hardware can't address it or has not been configured to do it.
3. It has 8GB but the OS can't address it all.
Kinda fun to dredge this old chestnut back up. Too quiet in here with all these phones working properly.
