If you recently updated to the latest version of your phone (lollipop perhaps) you are going to want to back up your data and do a factory reset. I found that after the lollipop update my battery life was suffering, but after a a factory reset my battery life and overall performance increased.

What did you tell them? I may need to do that. Do we just send the old battery back? Thanks!

In the past with getting a new battery from them, I didn't have to send mine back. They generally want to check the battery stats and then tell you it is good.

Just tell them the battery says it is good, but you are having issues with battery time and you would like to at least try a new battery before you switch the phone out and they will generally send you a new battery.

Request this through 611, not the AT&T Store.
