Regarding the AT&T Nexus 6 updates?

I've heard about this but I want to be absolutely certain. The updates still come straight from Google regardless of AT&T tampering with the device, right? I don't have to worry about AT&T deeming my phone worthy of the next version? I'm coming from a GS4, upgrading sometime in May/June, so I know exactly how it feels to wait for AT&T to give me my updates and I'm tired of waiting so long. I read an article that it still gets updates right from Google but I want to be ABSOLUTELY positive.

I believe that is how it worked for the 5.0 to 5.0.1 update on att. Since the 5.1 just got released today keep an ear to the ground and see how att n6 owners get this update.

That's great! I want to absolutely make sure I'm not stuck with AT&T deciding to wait 3-4 months to update me.

I have the AT&T Nexus 6 and the last update came promptly and without fuss... I will keep you posted

Re: Regarding the AT&T Nexus 6...

I purchased mine from Motorola.com and use on att. My colleague got his art an att corp store because he wanted to do the Next installment plan. We both got the last update within a day or so of each other.

Not completely sure but I believe the last update came a week or two late. I believe the updates are tied to the sim card. But I could be completely wrong. I guess we will now if we don't get it soon enough.

Re: Regarding the AT&T Nexus 6...

I too have an unlocked Nexus 6 and got a little tired of waiting around during the 5.01 update, it seems to me I remember powering down the phone, removing the sim, powering back up and in a couple minutes I had received the update. I did the update and put the sim back in - good to go. I am guessing this would work for unlocked AT&T phones as well.....

I heard they delayed it. I have a google play store model but use it on att. I have never waited for the OTA but have always side loaded. I thought I heard att held it up for weeks on the att model and people started removing the SIM or something to trigger the update ?

Re: Regarding the AT&T Nexus 6...

Hmmm... Interesting, the whole "removing the SIM" tactic. I'm still likely gonna get the nexus regardless. I don't mind a few weeks. I can't stand months and months waiting on Samsung AND at&t. Even with touchwiz cleaning up I don't trust it enough that it'll get speedy updates...plus I LOVE stock android.

Re: Regarding the AT&T Nexus 6...

I don't think they delay the updates. I use an unlocked Nexus 6 but I haven't seen any delays for carrier branded ones. You just have the carrier start up screen and logo on the back.

Okay sounds great! Sounds like I can finally finalize my decision about getting the N6. Phew! This was harder than deciding which college to commit to.

Re: Regarding the AT&T Nexus 6...

Guys I have the Nexus 6 (AT&T) and have not received the OTA update. I have been checking multiple times a day since 5.1 was announced. I got the Nexus 6 so I wouldn't need to wait for updates, but is a week or 2 the standard wait time? It seems like others have already received it.

Re: Regarding the AT&T Nexus 6...

I have at&t as well... Nothing yet hoping its soon... 1 of the three reasons I went with the nexus is too get updates quickly......

Re: Regarding the AT&T Nexus 6...

Yes after google announces the update has been released it can take 1-2 weeks for all phones to get it. They do this in a staged release. I believe it is 1percent, 25, 50, 75, 100. Something like that.

They do it this way to stop the rollout of a possibly bad update. So not everyone is affected.

I'm in the same boat as you, so at least your misery has company.

Re: Regarding the AT&T Nexus 6...

Yeah, I think a week or two is the standard time to wait. The update is staggered, like the above said. I'm fine with a week or two, I just hate waiting months and months dealing with AT&T, AND Samsung with my S4. Great phone, horrible updating.

Re: Regarding the AT&T Nexus 6...

I hate waiting so I attempted to side-load the OTA myself. (Not that easy to figure out the instructions if you've never done this before) and got REALLY close! For some reason my PC keeps dropping the connection to the device once i get to the "adb sideload [update file].zip" step. I guess I'll have to wait for the OTA. :'(

Re: Regarding the AT&T Nexus 6...

I am actually taking another look at what phone should replace my iPhone 6 Plus in the coming weeks, only holding out to see what we get for the GS6 (want 128GB) but honestly I am undecided, Nexus 6 vs Note 4 vs GS6.

That's a driver issue and easy to fix once tour in the bootloader. I side loaded as well and had some help getting it set up correctly. Look at device manager and see if there is an exclamation point there for your device. If so reinstall the driver right there and you should be all set

Re: Regarding the AT&T Nexus 6...

But what driver do I use? I had to do this in order for adb to even find my phone so there is no exclamation point anymore. I used the google drivers I installed with the SDK.
