Why is Nougat only available on nexus devices?

Nexus devices just get it first. It will eventually roll out to other OEMs. It may take a year or so. In some cases never.

Nexus devices are like Google's own children. They will get all the toffees first & then other one's
Moreover, Nexus devices are pure Stock Android without any skin so they will always receive Android OS updates first.
Other OEMs will receive Nougat within few months, after the testing / code validation is done by OEMs & then mobile carriers.

Thats the benefit of Nexus devices. They get updates straight from Google.

Why is Nougat only available on nexus devices?

Google can push Nougat out directly to Nexus devices.

Other Android phones need the OEM to first get Nougat and decide which of their phones will get it (and not all their devices will). Then, they need to monkey around with Nougat to put their touches (and bloatware) into it, and depending on exactly how many phones they're updating, this could take a while. When they're finally done with all their mucking around, they need to send all their versions of Nougat to the Phone Companies. Then, the Phone Companies take those files and make their own tweaks (which is mainly loading up more bloatware) which takes a couple of weeks usually (unless it's Verizon - then it could take up to a year). Finally, when the Phone Companies decide they're done adding their crap, they slowly roll out the updates (for reasons).

That's why Nexus devices get the updates right away and other devices don't.

Nexus devices are made by Google so they get the update first. The new Android updates are made by Google also. Other phones have to skin the original update and then release it to their phones. Samsung typically takes the longest to release the new updates. Hope this helps!
