Relocking the bootloader after rooting ?

When I rooted my Moto G, I had to unlock the bootloader. Once the phone has been rooted, do I need to keep the bootloader unlocked ? Havent seen this covered in any of the info I have found on this subject.

Yes, keep it unlocked. If you want to restore it to stock then lock it.

why do I need to keep the bootloader unlocked ? Wouldnt think i would need to after the rooting process had been done.

Rooting your phone gives you permissions (aka super user access) to files and functions that you don't normally have.

If you then lock your phone again you lose these permissions again.
