Remove myself from a group text

I haven't seen this issue specifically addressed (sorry if it has been) - I was attached to a group text message (I'm not sure of what devices the others have that are also attached) by one person I know, in a group of about 10 others I do not. They all continue to respond in group format, and I have received around 100 texts in several hours. How do I remove myself from this group or stop receiving texts from this group? I'm not asking how to stop receiving all group texts in the future, I just do not want to receive another text from this specific group (one I never joined in the first place but was somehow added).

Thanks!

When it once happened to me based on a wrong number, I couldn't get the idiots to stop texting and start a new group text without me. So, I finally just blocked all of their numbers. Since it was a wrong number situation rather than friends, that worked for me, but it may not for you. Not sure if there is another solution.

Thanks for the advice! I may end up having to do this, only one of the individuals is someone I know (a niece)....I am getting around 30-40 texts an hour still. I can't believe there is not a function on the phone to "leave this group" or something similar, hopefully there will be soon.

Thanks again!

Have you asked them to discontinue the group text and start a new one without you?

It's no different then being copied on an email. If they keep your number in the group conversation their phone sends it out. You don't join a group when sending a group message or even a text do you? Nope. You just enter the number and your phone sends it to that number.. Just like emails do when someone enters your address and hits send.

Yeah, but it would be super convenient to be able to automatically block all texts from a specific group without blocking every single person individually.

I have a number blocked that is in a group message and that number still sends texts and I still receive them, so how is this happening?

I was just added to a group text and was unable to remove myself and asked to be removed and received about 20 reply by various numbers .
To the point, called samsung call center and was advised to delete conversation. So far I have not received any more texts!

Hope it stays that way .

I cant believe in 2016 there is no way in android to remove yourself from a group text. When I searched for a solution for android devices all that popped was a how to for the iphone . Why can Iphone do this but not android?? you can mute the notification and try to block numbers but neither is a good solution..No one should have to ask to be removed.. you should be able to remove yourself.. theyre using your battery life, text message allowance and disturbing your life.. its like a form of spam...Rant over..

If you use Hangouts, you can remove yourself from the group chat on a PC. Sign into hangouts on your PC with the same account you use on your phone (google/gmail account).

When signed in, open the group message, click the gear icon, and then click 'leave'.

No more group messages from that group from then on.

This did not work for me. I just get thrown right back into the group once someone responds.

Try the Textra app. I believe it lets you 'blacklist' group conversations without blocking the individuals in the group conversation.

I believe that is only happening because it is in a group conversation, outside of that conversation they should not be able to but your phone can't filter specific names in groups only in individual texts can you block them...I have the same problem but they haven't sent me an individual text since I blocked them. You may also have a feature on your phone called do not disturb, turn that on and enter that person to the list and then they should not be able to contact you in any way at all, but I don't know how it works as I don't have it just heard about it.

Go to that group and slide it sideways, a window will open up with the option to delete conversation. That should take care of the problem.

I know! 2018 and still no answer! I broke the screen on my iPhone so got an S8. It is shocking how awkward and behind Android is!!! I think I spent a bunch of money on the wrong phone!

Welcome to Android Central! This is an MMS issue, not an Android issue. Google didn't develop MMS. You can always use other proprietary messaging platforms (which is what iMessage is, after all), but that requires the other person to also be on that messaging platform.

No one seems to be able to qualify, quantify, nor qua our dilemma! To the 'copter!!!
