Remove sleep mode

I need some help. When I am on a call I need to know how to get the phone out of sleep mode. I keep hitting the power button on top which ends the call.
Is there an adjustment in settings that will switch the top button so it no longer ends the call?

Pulling the phone away from your face should turn the screen back on, unless you have something covering the proximity sensor (note: even if that something is clear, like a screen protector, it will cause the proximity sensor to malfunction). That being said, pressing the power button shouldn't end the call unless you changed the setting. I believe its under accessibility. But the default is for it to not end the call.
