Remove SprintTV to fix lag?

Why does the SprintTV service keep reloading? It's taking-up a lot of memory, too. I added the desktop widget for 'Running Services' and I've been killing the Sprint TV process about once/day. I think my Hero is running better now?

Can anyone else weigh-in on this? Does killing this one particular service 'fix' the lag problem?

P.S. I'm also seeing the Amazon MP3 service open-up unexpectedly but I think it must be doing double-duty for something else. I still kill it when I see it, though!

I would be less paranoid about them. They aren't actually taking up memory or causing your lag problem. Most likely, your problem is Sprint's 2.1 ROM. Its basically a polished turd. Root and ROM and that will get rid of your lag. Its like all of a sudden, people are back onto the Task Killers... they aren't needed, android does it on its own. Plus, a lot of those task killers do funny things, like open up those apps. If you really want to know what running, or causing a memory problem, the best solution is to hook it up to a computer with an sdk installed (or run a terminal emulator on the phone) and type:
top m-5 n-1
and it will give you the top 5 culprits to whats eating up your PROCESSOR.

Yes, I realize the Sprint version of 2.1 is the problem, but the most likely culprits there are the Sense UI and the uninstallable Sprint apps like SprintTV. I'm not trying to promote Task Killer apps, I'm asking about a specific Sprint app that is always running.

If killing it doesn't fix the problem then so be it, but please let other people actually weigh-in before declaring that anything less than a full root-n-replace will do.

Its not sense. I have that on my phone... always have. That most certainly is not whats causing the lag. You can remove Sprint apps with root (quite easily) if you REALLY think that something that isn't really running is dragging your phone down. My recommendation is using:
top -m 5 -n 1 (sorry, i had entered the wrong text on original post)
on your computer with an SDK installed or with an emulator on your phone. It doesn't require root and will display what PROCESS is eating up your phone's performance.

This service certainly isn't responsible for all the problems on the new firmware, but everytime I get serious lag on the dialer I load the Services widget and there it is -- "SprintTV" (and 0 MB available, too). As soon as I kill it I regain ~75 MB.

So I think the "SprintTV" service has a memory leak?!
