Ok, I am looking at getting a Hero for my next phone. I am wondering though if its possible to remove the NFL & Nascar apps. I have them hidden on my Curve 8330 since I don't use them at all and I'd rather just reclaim the memory on my next phone (I should say I have the install links hidden on my Curve). Or is the Hero like the Curve in the fact that they are just install links?

Since they are basically advertisements, I would imagine it would be difficult if not impossible to remove them, and possibly a violation of some agreement somewhere.

There is no obvious way to remove them on a stock Hero. Combined they take up a hair over 1MB of storage. (516KB each)

I've installed a handfull of apps (pandora, taskkiller, tunewiki, album art grabber, google voice, shopsavvy, sipdroid, android-vnc-viewer, droid mini golf, amazon.com, phoneflicks, shazam, facebook, battery widget) and I'm showing about 90MB internal storage remaining so I think the gain would be negligable.

Cheers,

Well, I just removed some apps and some cleared the cache out of some others... went from 47MB to 58MB. I'd love to be at 90MB :)

We need ROOT so we can install/run from SD card.

Which apps did you remove? The ones that came stock on the phone? How'd you do that?

Nope, some stuff I went slap happy with in the Marketplace, games and whatnot. Spent 40 bucks my first 3 days of owning the phone :p

In order to remove those, we would need to basically create a new ROM without those apps "cooked into them". For that, we need ROOT... for that... well, we need someone brilliant at this point.
