Not sure when this happened (originally or when trying to restore contacts after factory erase with My Backup Pro), but I just noticed there are random (only a few dozen) phone entries saved in my Gmail calendars. All my 'favorites' are included...and I think any I modified in anyway while I had my phone.

1) Why would it detach all gmail contacts from their groups? The groups still exist, but all now list "0" members in each group (except one new one created "Starred in Android"...everyone I had as a favorite on the phone). Reorganizing is impossible. I don't know who was in which group. They were work related. Sigh. This can't be done again. I just lost some career networking there.

2) I thought you had to specifically save a contact as a google contact in your phone for it to synch with the gmail contacts list. Didn't know it would all merge into one. I have different labels for people in my phone than on email. Many I only need on EITHER gmail or phone.

This is hell

Same exact issue, just found it today. Unfortunately I can't pin down the last time things were "OK". I haven't done anything out of the ordinary lately that I can think of.

Maybe "My Backup Pro" has corrupted your contacts list? I would have just made a backup of the contacts using the standard export feature in gmail.

I've never seen one person have so many various problems problems with Android/Gmail. Maybe Android just isn't for you?
