Removing Gmail

For the last two weeks I have been using the K9 e-mail client. I like it much better than the standard Gmail. One of the features I like best is the ability to add appointments into my calendar from the notification e-mails. I would like to get rid of the duplicate Gmail. However, I don't want to give up the ability to synchronize my calendar with Google.

Is it possible to remove just the Gmail but retain the calendar?

If you're rooted you can remove it completely. Otherwise you can just set your g mail to never sync.

Menu / settings /accounts and sync / google account / un check gmail
