I put a password on the screen lock but now want to revert to swipe

is it possible to remove the password without resetting to factory data?

What happens after you press Screen lock and enter the password and press Done? Don't you get a screen that says Select screen unlock?

Had the same problem because I had set up a VPN a while back which requires lock screen security. Removed the VPN and was then able to reset the lock screen security to NONE. You may not have a VPN but maybe another feature activated which demands security

yes you can change it into another like swipe, or none...whatever..
settings--> security (Galaxy s4 click more and find security option)-->click "clear credentials" and now try to check your lock type..

Yes , go to SETTING and tap my device , select Lock screen then confirm passwords , tap swipe . It's DONE.
Cheers !

Hi- somewhat newbie here.
I am posting here because it is the closest I've found to my problem. I'll do my best to explain. I have a samsung galaxy SIII.

I had been using pattern lock and was very happy doing so. I began to wonder whether or not I would remember the PIN I had set up. I wanted to update my pattern (which I had successfully done before) and verify my PIN. I seem to have gone down a very wrong path.

What I wanted to was change my PIN, somehow I created a password and now can't figure out how to get back to using a pattern lock.

I first accidentally created a password thinking that I was creating a new one since I had already entered my phone using the pattern. Wrong. I ended up creating a password that for some reason replaced/disabled my pattern. To fix this I've done what the forums say to do to change the lock type, but no luck. Here are my results:

Go to setting>lock screen>, I click on screen lock (secured witih password), clicking there it asks me for my password, I enter my password and it takes me to a screen that is all greyed out except for Password/high security. I can't choose anything but Password/high security. Clicking on that Password option takes me back to a screen that says "select a password".

So, I now know how to change my password. But, what I want to do is get back to a pattern lock.
I checked for VPN setting and none shows up.

thanks for any help and for being patient.

I had the same issue only i had a swipe pattern instead of password. the regular swipe option was greyed out until i followed the steps described a few posts back... here they are again...settings-more-security-clear credentials. when i returned to settings-my device-lock screen i was able to select swipe again!
