rename files?

Why not install oi filemanager?

I don't have any problem with using a file manager or using a PC but there should be a way in jellybean to rename a file. I just can't find it.

I completely agree with the last post. File management should be high up the priority list on any decent OS. Many of the free file managers available from Google play don't allow this feature. However, I have found X-Plore, which seems to do the trick. The menu system offers many features, but this is at the expense of looking a little complicated to the more novice user.

Hope this helps.

I rename files on my Samsung Galaxy i9000 (Gingerbread) using the built-in MyFiles file manager. On my Asus tablet (Jellybean), I use the built-in File Manager. No need to connect to PC.

As razergear suggested, the Android operating system has the tools to do basic file functions. I just renamed a stored file by going to "My Files", opening the folder where I found the file I want to rename, clicking "More", then "Edit" and touching the check box next to the desired file. Then (upper right) clicking "More" again (other choices are Copy, Add Shortcut on on Home screen, Compress and Details). A Typewriter screen came up and I just typed over the name in the input/entry box, then hit the "Rename" below the input/entry box.
