Pardon me if this is a really stupid question, but couldnt I just rename the thunderom.zip file to update.zip file and flash it from my stock recovery?

Provided you run windows the reversion and updates takes like 1-2 hours, with maybe 30 minutes of real typing. This is assuming you run windows. Just follow the instructions.

I got my phone like 1 week ago and reverted within two hours and installed a custom recovery. The pathway to installing 1.7 wasn't discussed when I started, thought I had the firmware.

Did you get a refurb unit as your new device? If so, then probably your MEID wasn't properly entered into LGs database preventing you from getting the VC update using the LG Software Updater tool.

There is a procedure to get what you want in my signature (also explains the refurb MEID problem), but it sounds like you may not be interested anymore.

Oh, I am more than interested. I Just bricked my other phone, and had to pay $35 for another one PLUS now my $10 a month extra kicks in since I activated this device Tuesday. Don't wanna have to pay that extra cost again.

My whole issue is I have NO CLUE how to use cmd prompts and all that jazz. When I rooted and installed a custom recovery the first time, I did it all right on my phone, no cables at all. That is the only way I am comfortable do it.

Was wondering how that was working with bricks/refurbs/reactivation. If I were a conspiracy kind of guy, I might actually think this could be part of a "business plan" to close the exploit and to get subscribers into the new rate structure earlier  !

The first $35 (this time) was paid for by my parents. From here on out, it is all me. Can't afford that.

According to Sprint if you your ESN/MEID changes as a result of Service & Repair/Advanced Exchange you don't need to pay the $10 premium data (if you weren't paying it before)

Sprint Community: Plans: What's there to know about the $10 Smartphone Premium Data Add-on?

I'm assuming since you pointed it out, you weren't paying it on your old phone.

I would complain to Sprint to have them honor their own policies. You paid the $35 to them for Advanced Exchange. They shouldn't hit you for the $10.
