Replace Android TV with Linux?

I have a "smart" television from Kogan that runs Android TV and to be honest, I've hated it since Day One... Android TV is rubbish in more ways than I care to count, which is why I never use the "Android TV" side of my "smart" television.

So perhaps I can make it more useful...

Is there a way I can replace Android TV with a Linux-based operating system (ideally Ubuntu, but I'm not fussed either way)?

The television I have is a "Kogan KALED55KU8000SZA 55-inch Smart TV", which the Google Play Store (on the Web) refers to as an "MStar Android TV" from "MStar Semiconductor". It runs Android TV 5.1.1.

Run Terminal Emulator for Android and you'll see that the operating system that Android runs on is Linux.

I realize that... But there's an awfully big difference between Android TV-Linux and Ubuntu/<insert distro here>-Linux.

And "Linux" in the context of a regular operating system is a lot more capable than Android TV could ever hope to be... For one, I could have have a traditional Linux-based operating system automatically boot into Kodi on power-up, among other things.
