Reset my phone, still having problems

I've got the Samsung Stratosphere, its running Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

For the last few months my phone has been very laggy and slow, especially in the last few weeks. It was fine when I got it, but its been all downhill in the last few months. When I say laggy and slow, an example of that is I would click on my Messages app and it will take a good 6 seconds to load my messages. I will click the home screen and it will take 10 seconds (not exaggerating, I actually counted) to properly and fully load my home screen. The apps won't all show up until the 10 seconds are up, and the widgets also take a bit to show. It even takes a few seconds to respond. For example, lets say I am in the internet browser. I push the home button. I will still be on the internet browser for another 3 seconds, then I'll have a black screen for 2 seconds, then my wallpaper will show up with nothing on it, then 5 seconds later my apps and home screen will finally load.

I thought the stock apps were the issue, so I downloaded Go Launcher Ex and Go SMS Pro to help, but those aren't any better.

I realized it was time for a factory reset. I reset my phone, but it isn't running any faster at all than before. Its like I didn't even do the reset, you can't notice any difference.

I can temporarily solve the issues by doing a soft reset by holding the power button for 20 seconds, and my phone will work fine for about half the day, but then it gets slow and laggy again.

The only thing I can think of that might be the root of this problem is maybe there is internal damage? Around last September the LCD screen broke and I had to get it fixed in order to use the phone again. I used a blackberry for a bit but in January I gave my phone to a mall repairman and he fixed it. Is it possible that he did something to screw up the internal hardware, causing my phone to be slow and laggy?

Whats wrong with my phone? What can I do to fix it? Please help.

Silly question but have you tried a factory reset since you started experiencing all this lag? Sounds like the device is ready for a good house cleaning.

I agree with Paul. You need to factory reset (again) and install apps one at a time (allow time in between each install) and see if there is any one app causing the problem. Apps can cause the issues you are having and the trick is finding which one.

Yes, I did factory reset, and its still not working. Thats the whole premise of the post. I actually did the reset yesterday, a few hours before I made this thread. How long do I have to wait in between downloading each app? How am I supposed to figure out which app is causing the problem? If I simply uninstall the problem app(s) will my phone go back to normal? I only download apps from Google Play to make sure everything I download is safe.

You should install apps that really needed (and I mean really needed) then install one app every hour or so and see if the problem occurs. It'll probably start immediately after installing an app, at which point you will know whenever the issue started and know what apps were installed around that time. I suspect it's an app.

You can also go into menu - settings - applications - running. If there are apps running which shouldn't be, like games, then that could be the issue.
