So I made a boo boo. I tried to update to AOKP milestone 3. I didn't wipe everything because I figured I was just updating to a new rom version, not changing rom varieties.
Well, now I get stuck in the AOKP boot loop. I tried to get into recovery (CWM) and it's not there. I guess they left the recovery backup file in place, which overwrites CWM. Super.
Then I tried to use ADB, but I keep getting waiting for device. When I look in device manager I just see my phone as "Samsung mobile USB CDC composite device." It's not "unknown." I had previously unlocked and rooted from this laptop, so it should have all the drivers still.
I tried to use Odin to install CWM. I used 7-zip to wrap it in .tar and load it as a PDA, but Odin just crashes. I tried to push a factory image, but it still crashes. I guess this is the same device issue.
So what the what? I know this should not be permanently bricked (I do at least see the AOKP boot animation and the PC recognizes something and I can boot into fastboot), but I'm out of tricks. Help is appreciated if you have any advice.
When I boot into fastboot (power + volume down) I see:
Odin Mode in red in top left.
Start next to power (just begins the boot loop)
Downloading....
Do Not turn of target
OMAP-samsung hw information.
There is no "fastboot" mentioned!
So it looks like I am in Odin mode, not fastboot mode for some reason. Alas, Odin crashes. (v3 1.85).Win 7 64 bit. Truecrypt installed today, FWIW.
