Has anyone got the audio notification for incoming text while screen is off to work? I thought that would be pretty much standard but I can not get it to work. Played with just about every combination of settings (and there are a lot...)

It works on mine. I get the quick message pop-up with sound and I can quick reply without even unlocking the phone.

Let me clarify.

I do not want screen pop ups so my settings are:

-Pop up disabled
-Turn screen on when popup disabled
-Notification sound is a custom audio file (work fine when screen on and message recieved)

So my screen does turn on when I get a text but I do not get my custom message sound to play. I also can't get the standard message sound either so I know it is not an issue with a custom sound.

Maybe the only solution is pop ups enabled?

Yeah I have noticed that whatever you choose for vibrate is not what happens when you get a text. It's like it gets cut off....

And that is a totally different potential Handcent bug/issue than the original one I posted about....?

Mine works fine, but I'm rooted and running a custom rom(if that makes a difference). Screen lights up, it vibrates and ringer plays.

Thanks much, please confirm:

-Stock Messaging app running in the background?
-You have Handcent set up to also bring up the pop up window that floats the Handcent window with the text message in it above the home screen?

I suspect your answer to the 2nd question is yes.

Yes to the stock messaging app running in the background. If you're talking about the pop up in the notification/status bar, yes it is set up like that.

OK did some more investigating. There is a bug, but you can avoid it by leaving the "Display message notifications in the status bar" turned on. If you turn this off you will inadvertently disable two other things:

-Wake screen from sleep
-Play incoming message audio notification

Seems like is absolutely must be a bug. I reported it on Handcent forum.

Note: You can have this resolution as well as still disabling the (annoying) screen pop up dialogs.

My point being that maybe there was a compatibility issue with handcent and the bolt being that vibrate is also part of the notification coding. Was trying to help, not hijack your thread. Trust me, I really don't care that much....

No worries, I now see the potential connection you had in mind. I was just confused more than anything by your reply. I don't mind OT wandering at all. In some other forums I frequent we really go OT but its all good. Cheers.

Thx a lot :) glad you got it straight. I tried replicating it for u and couldn't figure it out. Good job! Have u noticed the vibrate notification glitch I mentioned? Only one seems to work for me :(

I also tried to replicate your issue. All three options under incomming notifications set to vibrate worked whether or not my screen was on or off (always, never, only when phone is set to vibrate). Must be some other setting. You could also just uninstall and reinstall Handcent. I did that when troubleshooting my bug.
