My phone charges via USB but will not sync as media device OR camera. My computer says "USB device not recognized", and I suspect it is a device issue because when I try playing media via a different USB cord in my car stereo.

I've already tried updating drivers on my computer AND tried accessing USB options by dialing #0808 # but my phone is "unable to process request". I've tried using different USB cords, and I've tried gently adjusting the metal tongue into which the USB inserts, but still nothing.

Any advice you all can offer would be much appreciated. Thanks.

EDIT: I've discovered it's a hardware issue, pushing the metal tongue upwards temporarily solves the problem, albiet a ducttape fix. Thanks everyone for your help.

Do you have developer options enabled on the phone? Also, go to Device Manager on your PC and find USB. Make sure there is an entry that shows the Samsung drivers you hopefully installed, not something Microsoft applied for you.

I have enabled developer options and tried enabling USB debugging but with the same results. Or is there another option I should use?

I have installed the Samsung driver but whenever I look in my device manager when my phone is plugged only driver that shows up under USB controllers is "unknown device".

My phone is running KitKat, Android Version 4.4.2

I did a factory reset and still nothing, so I'm beginning to suspect the hardware. Thanks.
