Restoring photos from a red ringed/bootlooped N4

My Nexus 4 recently went into the depths of a red ring death, only to be quickly revived. I was elated to see my screen finally turn on, but alas, I got stuck at the X screen. After reading tutorials, I reset my phone to factory settings, which I was told, would result in me losing all of my photos.

Alas, the phone returned to stock, and my photos are missing from my gallery. However, the weird thing is, the stock wallpaper is the same wallpaper I used before the restoration. This leads me to believe that the photos are hiding on the phone somewhere!

Any advice, perhaps?

I assume you don't have the auto photo upload to Google+ activated? If you do, all your photos will be there. Otherwise, you could try looking on the phone's memory via hooking it up to a computer with a USB cable.
