Resuse rooting for EVO Shift for EVO

Can I use the guide in this forum for rooting an EVO Shift, to root an EVO? Shouldn't it be the same? They both are running the same OS and rooting is modifying the OS to give superuser actions. I ask because the one provided here does not erase everything, where as the one in the EVO forum does.

no. you cannot use the method posted here for any other phone but the shift.
