Return phone to buy again at Amazon.com?

I bought my captivate for $200 at my local AT&T store. Now I see that Amazon.com has it for $99. Do you think I could return it and get the one from amazon? It would obviously cost the $35 for restocking fee, but it's still saving me $65. Has anyone else done this?

Sure, if you can go a few weeks without a phone.

AT&T will show that you have already upgraded, and their system will have to be updated to show the return and canceled uprade before you can upgrade with Amazon...

may be a month or so even...

Hmm, didn't think about that. I figured it would be updated immediately. You sure about that? If so, I think I might just stick with one I have.

I have been an at&t wireless customer for over 10 years. I have great coverage in my area, but never has ANYTHING in regards to account status turned around immediately...

But you could always call and ask.
Don't say that you are getting the same phone cheaper, just say you want a different phone for the renewal price.

That sucks. Well, I have things configured nicely on this captivate, so doing it over again and not having it for awhile would be a hassle anyway. I'm keeping it. Thanks for the info!

I understand that only certain people can get the $99 deal - you have to agree to spend a certain in NEW (additional) charges per month on AT&T services - e.g., it doesn't work for those who are on a family plan and just want to upgrade the phone and add a data plan - none of the data plans alone add up to the $ min (I think it's an extra $50/month)

I bought my phone from Letstalk.com several weeks ago for $99 and today it is $89. I qualified by renewing my contract for 2 years (my last 2 yr contract was expired). I kept the minimum individual talk plan (450 min). You also need to pick a smartphone data plan (200 MB for $15/mo or 2GB for $25/mo). Other than that, I don't think there are any other requirements. If you are still on contract, then there are some other options to get the $89 price. The deal also appears to work with all the family plans.

I think if you took the phone back just to get some money back through Amazon, that would be pointless. $65 for the time and hassle? To me, its not worth it.
