Oh well i tried. i didn't get the iphone 4 because of the death grip,(easy fix with a case) but this as more problems. sorry android. btw i upgraded from an iphone 3g on the Captivate's first day of sale. Going back next Monday.

haha we're exact opposites. I had an iPhone 4 and returned it for a Captivate.

I like the Captivate it's much different from the iPhone and I'm still getting used to it but I remembered when I switched from a Blackberry to an iPhone and I HATED the iPhone but eventually got the hang of it.

Anyways I would urge you to wait you have 30 days to play with it and iPhones are still sold out and you could learn about a bunch of new stuff you can do with the phone. I love the iPhone I used them for years but Android is cool in its own ways too (and has it's downfalls *cough*android market*cough*)

Anyways what are the problems you're experiencing

I can;t get gps to work at all no matter what i try, if gps doesn't work that's false advertisement. LOL at myself because i pass the iphone for almost the same reasons. I do have until August 18 so maybe another week.

So people like me can congratulate him on being "No buddies" Fan Boy *****.....loving the freedom and choices.

There should be an update coming soon to fix that. Otherwise search the homepage for the Captivate I remember seeing them post some kind of fix by tweaking some of the settings.

If gps not working is your only major compaint, why not just complain and get another captivate? It seems like some of them have the problem, but most don't. I have no problems with gps on my captivate. I was using it with google nav the other day, which is amazing, btw!

Yeah, mine wasn't working properly either but someone posted an article here or something to fix it and now it works find, just look for it.

I couldn't get it to work either. Went in and exchanged it for a different Captivate. New GPS wouldn't work until I tried the fix from this site and now it works just fine. New phone seems like a newer build or something.

Haha I went from an i4 to the Captivate. I don't know how Apple can justify the antenna problem by saying "just use a case". I don't use cases or screen protectors on any of my phones and I returned the POS i4 because it is the only phone on the market where you press the seam with your finger and all data transmission STOPS, yes you can death grip any phone but the data transmission will not STOP.

So you trade lack of GPS right now for the lack of ability to make phone calls... yeah, that makes sense. Have fun dropping calls. Did we forget its a phone first?

I own both phones and can honestly say I've not dropped a call with either.

To get back on topic sorta :)

The GPS on the Galaxy S models appear to be set up for the Eastern Hemisphere. The quick fix is the link listed above. Samsung is aware, all Galaxy S models are affected, and a fix will be in the first OS update.

In the meantime, use the link above. It's easy, doesn't need root, and works.

Unfortunately, I've tried everything tweak-wise to get GPS working and it doesn't work for my phone most of the time. I did have one night where I walked outside and got a quick lock inside 20 seconds, but most of the time my phone (before and after every tweak I've seen: I've tried them all and all combinations of them) NEVER gets a GPS lock in my car; which is where I'd want it to work and other phones do.

I will probably take it in and try another unit, but I am watching my 30 day window carefully and anxiously awaiting an official fix. :)

I find it strange that the Captivate seems to be the weakest of the 3 Galaxy S phones out now. I know the Vibrant had lag issues and a GPS issue, but apparently, the Captivate has the weakest camera, cannot side load apps (ATT's fault), and has a GPS problem.

I must say that picking a smartphone these days is really not that easy. It's always iPhone, Droid X, Evo 4g, Galaxy S, and why not throw in a Blackberry in there?

I don't see it as weak at all. The GPS thing is purely a software problem, which can already be solved by changing a few things and I'm sure it'll be fixed through an update soon. Side loading apps isn't that big of a deal to me I figure most stuff worth downloading will be in the Android Market.

Finally lag on the Vibrant? Weakest Camera on the Captivate? They're all the same phones the only difference is the extra **** carriers put on. Sprint has 4G and a front camera Verizon will have a flash on the back... other then that and cosmetic differences they're all the same

I own both, waited in line on att's launch day starting at 3am to get my iPhone 4. Having just tried out a evo I was ready to be back home on ios.

It was love at first, untill I started using it as a phone. My problem wasn't the antenna that seemed ok, did drop some calls but I'm a big boy I can remember to "hold different", no my issue is the promixity sensor. I had so many "cheeked" calls from the screen randomly commingle on, speakerphone, facetime or sometimes just tones. It happend every day for two weeks.

I love my captivate.
