I ordered an Orchid Grey Galaxy S8+ direct from Samsung.com US although I don't have it yet.
I'm moving over from an iPhone 7 plus 128Gb. I used to be an Ambassador over at iMore, so entrenched was my love for my iPhone (honestly, I still really miss being an Ambassador and helping folks though).
Several years ago, I had an HTC One M7, a Galaxy S2, then S3, then two Note 3s. The Notes were the worst phones I had ever used. They glitched, the battery was awful and they would randomly shut themselves off (one time losing me a contract worth over 1500 GBP). Because of that, I swore I would never use a Samsung phone again. You could probably even quote me saying that over at iMore.
However, things change.
Over the intervening five years, although I have loved my iPhones, I have not loved what Apple has done with them. I think the design of the 6/6s/7 is a step back from the beautiful style of the 4/4s/5/5s series. I really need a headphone jack to use the accessories I have as im an actor, film maker and podcaster (isn't everyone a podcaster nowadays?) and need that headphone jack for mics and to connect it to other devices I have that I use in podcasting, film making and acting. I never realised how dependent I was on the headphone jack until I needed to connect my phone to a speaker system one day to play something and realised I couldn't...
So I nearly bought the Note 7 last year as it looked amazing and had a rich feature set. That purchase was stopped short for obvious reasons.
I figured that if Samsung were ever to produce a phone that was as bullet proof as they possibly could, it would be right after a disaster like the Note 7 fiasco. Whilst I am still interested in the Note 8, a stylus is not as important to me, I just want the larger screen to read scripts on.
Then the S8 was leaked and it blew me away. This is what Apple needed to do for the 7 series to make it stand out. The 7/7 plus is a great phone but it didn't wow me. The portrait bokeh feature was fun but not something I used day in, day out. What Apple did was produce a solid, reliable phone that wasn't cutting edge, just damn good at what it does.
I don't have a Mac and my iPad 2 is dying a death, so will swap my tablet over to something Android when I have the money and once i'm settled here with the S8+.
Anyway, sorry for the long post. Happy to be back here again. One thing I like about Mobile Nations is that regardless of which site I go to, it's usually very friendly and informative here.
