Rezound vs Galaxy Nexus

I need help deciding what phone to pick, the contenders are the HTC Rezound and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. (I'm not interested in the Droid Razr, too thin for me and it's made by Motorola) I'm coming from the original HTC Droid Incredible.

I actually purchased the Rezound last week to give it a try, I was secretly hoping I would find something I didn't like about it so that I could get over my issues with Samsung, but it turns out I do like it enough to make it a very difficult decision. So, I'm turning here to help decide what to do. Here are my thoughts:

- I want the best phone available so that 2 years from now I still have a half decent phone.

- This will be my primary camera and I want good quality pictures, I'm a little worried that the SGN's camera isn't up to snuff.

- Good battery life is important to me, I got the Seido 3500 mAH battery for my Incredible and I'm a little worried that the SGN won't accept an extended battery (at least without looking weird like the TB) where the Rezound already has a very nice one available. (the size does not bother me, I actually like having something to hold onto) If the battery happens to be enough for a days use then I don't need the extended, but it's nice to know there is an option.

- Bloatware annoys the crap out of me, and it's all over the Rezound. (damn you Verizon!!!) I'm not really a fan of rooting my phone, so the appeal of a Google Experience device is big!

- I also want updates in a reasonable amount of time from when they come out, which is another big appeal of the Google Experience. Although I know that the Rezound will be ICS eventually, who knows when it will happen. Matter of fact, my Incredible JUST got the update to Gingerbread the week I got the Rezound, almost a year after Gingerbread was released. That's unacceptable to me!!!

- The build quality of the SGN scares me, the Rezound I must say is well built.

Any help anyone can give towards helping me decide one way or another would be very appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

HTC sense is to bloated and uses to much resources so that affects future os updates. Nexi is Samsung so enjoy plastic phones that are light as razr

I had a dinc once and i needed a bigger screen, so i switched to a thunderbolt. Now i am ready to make the move to a Nexus.

I like how HTC sense has the big clock and weather widget, but i can also get that on any phone by using the Beautiful Widgets app from the market place.

As for having a solid phone 2 years from now, I am convinced that if you get a duel core device that had 1 gig of ram, you will be fine.

Because you have the rezound right now, i would over the next 5 or so days (until the nexus is released) start making a list of all the things you hate and love about the rezound. Then go grab a nexus and play with it in store and see if better fits your needs.

I got sick of sense and always rooted my phones so they could run pure android, so why not buy a phone that already has it. I also am becoming a "nexus only guy" because of updates. When the thunderbolt was first released they promised gingerbread to it and i just got gingerbread almost a year later, 3 weeks ago.

cheers!

If your gonna root like I am. It doesn't really matter. Cm9 is a big reason I went Rezound. I like the rezounds hardware. HTC over Samsung imo. Stock, the nexus tops, but rooted the Rezound could be just as good. And Im a big fan of thus HTC camera. You really can't go wrong through.

To say that the HTC Rezound will be just as good/better than the Galaxy Nexus once it gets ICS is, unfortunately, not true. Ice Cream Sandwich is optimized to work hand-in-hand with every piece of hardware that the Galaxy Nexus has. So while Rezound will have ICS, it will be lacking in some features because of the lack of optimization. Ever wonder how Apple gets their i*hone to run so damn smooth?

I have a Rezound now. Even with Sense its pretty good. And contrary to your personal belief, once it gets ICS it will be every bit as good as the Nexus.

Optimization is just a fluff word, it doesn't really have any meaning.

I had the rezound and returned it. Battery life was slightly better than my tbolt but just barely. I'm tired of battery life issues with htc phones. Plus in order to make the battery life equal to the nexus you will need to transform the rezound into a brick with the extended battery

What were you doing with your phone that your battery life was that bad? I can get 15 hours or more out of the Rezound EASILY, which decimates the Thunderbolt.

Wouldn't ice cream sandwhich bring hardware acceleration to the Rezound? If so, wouldn't that make it better than a nexus since its 1.5 over 1.2?

I'm not trolling or claiming one is better. You all know I was one of the nexus faithful. Ive just grown tired of waiting and since I'm rooting, I think the Rezound would be better for me.

Actually not the same. If you remember in the good old days of MS-DOS (before Win 95) you had special drivers for each video card and the drivers were very often optimized for certain video games. The Galaxy Nexus is going to be optimized for TI OMAP cpu/gpu. I would think it will be fairly easy for Motorola to build ICS since it is using the same processor. It's hard to say how easy it is going to be for HTC to build ICS for the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. May not run as well as the OMAP version or may take quite a while to get it working well.

With hardware acceleration it is the gpu that matters and I have no clue how the adreno in the s3 compares to the power vr in the 4460.
As for the CPU in the rezound vs the nexus, they are not directly comparable. The s3 in the resound uses qualcom's own scorpian architecture while the 4460 in the nexus uses an arm cortex a9 architecture. Clock for clock the a9 beats the scorpian so they would have to be tested against each other to see what's faster

No it will NOT. I'm sorry, but probably no phone will run ICS like the gnex will. They took a new software and then handpicked the hardware to run with it so it's custom suited to run ICS. The rezound was just another android phone built running gingerbread. At most (which it isn't) it was built to run GB.

You're saying you need a 2700mah battery in the rezound to match the 1800mah in the nexus? This...cannot be taken seriously

This is a very untrue statement. Optimization makes all the difference in the world. I have experienced this first hand. I have a Samsung fascinate which runs a 1GHz hummingbird processor. The nexus s also runs the same 1GHz hummingbird processor. Jt1134 took the nexus s kernel that teamhacksung got booting on SGS phones and hacked it to unbelievable functionality on the fascinate. Because the nexus s kernel was optimized by Google for the hummingbird processor, the speed, smoothness and fluidity of the fascinate more than doubled as compared to the stock kernel. So now, the fascinate has evolved to mtd development which is heads and tails above stock bml development that the fascinate started off as. This is all due to the optimization that you say "has no meaning".

Meh

No, simply because snapdragon chipsets are the lower-end chipsets in the processor department. So a 1.2GHz optimized for ICS processor will easily outperform a non-optimized 1.5GHz snapdragon chipset.

Meh

I'm renting the Rezound. I happen to really like it. Will likely get the Nexus since it will work easier with ROMs and the phone was made for ICS. I actually like Sense, but it is a resource hog.

Quick question, is the weather Live wallpaper a Sense thing or does it come on most phones? Also could I get one similar on the market? Nice to know that the htc clock that is most recognizable has something similar on the market.

Fact is if the phone suits your needs then it doesn't really matter what others think. I think the Rezound is great, just certain features on the Nexus that I know I will want.

Or maybe stock Android was just better than your skinned Android. Correlation does not equal causation.

No, because I was running cm7 on the bml kernel and then flashed the mtd cm7 build. It was night and day difference in speed, smoothness and performance, both on cm7. One was an optimized kernel and the other wasn't. I'm sorry my friend, but optimization makes ALL the difference.

Meh

If you get Beautiful Widgets from the market it comes with a weather live wallpaper, not sure how it compares to htc's, never used sense before
