I need a regular ringtone for incoming calls. Don’t know why it’s not included. The included ones, and there are many are better used for text or other notifications.
Any suggestions for a “safe” 3rd party app for ringtones?

I no longer have Zedge but the ringtone I D/L ed from it has been transferred from phone to phone since my Nexus...(Pink Panther ring tone)

Yeah, Zedge is great! I've been using a ringrone featuring B.B.King's Lucille for years.

The Pixel Sounds app should have many different options. Do you mean that you want a more conventional phone ringtone (like an old school bell tone)?

Yeah I was looking for a type of mellow ringtone sort of like the kind you hear in an office setting.
I found one on Zedge that said it was an old fashioned desk phone sound but it's a bit too obnoxious. I'll use it though while I keep looking.

My wife uses The Big Adventure under the Pixel Sounds category. It sounds like a pleasant musical ring, maybe give that one a try.

I found the "Sharp Ring" under the Play-it-Loud folder to be what I was looking for. This is similar to the old fashioned ringtone.

Zedge is not bad. The Sharp Ring built-in tone is not bad either. I have an mp3 file named "classic Nokia ring" (or something similarly named) that I found online years ago and I keep a copy in my Google Drive storage and have used it on many phones the past 5 or 6 years. It is very loud and sounds like an old late 90's brick cell phone.

I have an mp3 named Aquila that I have used for years - sounds like a traditional phone

Another +1 for Zedge. You can just use the mobile site if you don't want to install the app for any reason.

I've been using the same ringtone and notifications for years. I just keep the mp3 files on One Drive and download them whenever I get a new phone.
