I have custom ringtones I want to use, and have placed them in the Ringtones and Notifications folders.

However, once I select them as in the Sound settings, or I select them specifically for each app, the phone places copies of them in my Music folder - each copy being given a new number (eg. Ringtone(35)).

So when I play my music on shuffle, the music is interrupted by ringtones and notification sounds between songs.

How do I prevent this from happening?

Welcome to Android Central! That's really odd behavior. You're not using any 3rd party ringtone app like Zedge, are you?

Do they get placed in their own subfolder in /Music, or are they just in the main /Music folder?

Thank you.

The phone / android system places the numbered copies in the main Music folder, not in any sub folder.

The ringtones are self-made, in WAV format and they work fine.

There is no logical reason for this that I can think of. I have tried deleting them all from the Music folder, but the phone puts them back there without me doing anything.

In my experience on other phones, custom ringtones get added to a protected system directory, rather than the main /Music directory. This sounds like some quirk of the Moto firmware. The only thing I can suggest right now is to send feedback to Moto, but of course this won't lead to any quick solution (and with Moto's poor track record with system updates, it may not lead to any solution at all:-\).
